Food industry - Our 30 year history

These are some of the mileposts in our history:

  • 1981: Surdry, SL was founded by Vicente Bertomeu Palmer. From the start, his son, José Vicente Bertomeu Asategui, took part in the company's activities and officially joined it in 1984.
  • 1983: Invention patent: sterilising system using steam and water spray.
  • 1989: ASME "U" certification and start of exports to the USA.
  • 1991: Design and building of the first rotary retort.
  • 1993: Nestlé chooses Surdry rotary retorts for its new precooked tray line. The installation consists of 10 AR-174 model retorts with automatic loading and unloading.
  • 1997: Surdry extends to the Pacific due to the growing demand for pouch sterilisers and gains great experience in handling this type of packaging.
  • 2004: Design and building of the first oscillating retort and installation of multiple large units in the USA (1700mm in diameter and 8m in long).
  • 2006: José Vicente Bertomeu succeeds his father Vicente Bertomeu Palmer as Managing Director and General Director of Surdry, S.L.
  • 2009: New generation of oscillating retorts.
